Nyt and wapo both have front page stories that Corona deaths are undercounted. I think it said that they are only counted uf a rest was administered...while alive...and they were positive. Then the medical examiner decides if Corina was the direct cause. If so it's added if not it's not.
There are no autopsies for Corona... Or anyway to test a dead person after the fact that I'm aware of
More importantly...the number of infections is being under reported...not by a little. The reason is many hospitals sent swabs to quest and LabCorp in Calif. Quest has a backlog of 160000. LabCorp 80000.
These tests were of only screened patients that were symptomatic..so the likelihood us a relatively high number of positives are sitting in a bin in Calif...the results supposed to take 2-3 days are taking up to 3 weeks and counting. See the Atlantic s reporting.
This hasn't hit the front pages yet but it will. It means that the reported numbers as large as they seem are prob only a fraction of infections bith tested and untested.
